Trial in Riffa exchange house robbery begins
Manama : The trial of an Asian man who robbed around BD3,000 from a money exchange house in Riffa in April began on Thursday.
During the trial, which was adjourned to September 13, it was revealed that the accused stole a military uniform that was hung outside a house to dry and used a plastic gun to threaten the employees of the East Riffa branch of a money exchange company, before stealing BD2,700 and fleeing the scene. He was arrested within 24 hours with BD500. The rest of the money he had already sent to his family in Pakistan. The 28-year-old told the interrogators that he committed the robbery because he was going through a financial crisis and confessed to sending the cash to Pakistan to pay off his debts.
The Public Prosecution accused the man of robbery on April 4, using force and stealing an identity card, which he used to remit the money to his country. The case has been referred to the First High Criminal Court.
