Diraz violence: 47 more released

Manama : A second batch of the people arrested in the security operation in Diraz on May 23 was released on Thursday, DT News has learnt.

The area’s parliamentary representative MP Jalal Kadhim confirmed in his official Twitter page on Thursday that 47 of the arrested were released as per the instructions of Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. This comes one week after 40 arrested in the violence were released from different police stations in the Northern Governorate. This puts the total released from police stations at 97, out of the 286 arrested during the security operation, which resulted in the arrest of several fugitives and wanted individuals for terror related crimes. Five individuals were killed in clashes with security forces and more than 30 policemen sustained injuries.

Jalal Kadhim confirmed that the release was in his and Northern Area Governor’s presence.

MP Kadhim also stated that his family members were assaulted by a group of individuals.

“While we’re working to solve the issue of Diraz and contributed in the release of more than 90 individuals, my family was subjected to a Molotov cocktail attack while exiting Bani Jamrah village. Who’s responsible,” Kadhim questioned on his Twitter page.

This not the first time Kadhim and his family members were attacked, as his house, farm and cars were burnt. He was attacked more than four times in the past three years.
