Mahmood, Hassan clinch doubles win

Manama : Hamed Al Mahmood and Mohammed Abo Hassan defeated Hector Cortes and Mohammed Al Sayed in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 in the third round of Group 1 doubles matches in The Late Yousif Khalil Al Moayyed Cup at the Bahrain Tennis Club Ramadan Tournament at its premises in Juffair.

In another Group 1 match, Ahmed Qaed and Khaled Qayoom needed to work really hard to win in two tie-break sets 7-6(7-4), 7-6 (7-4) against Hussain Al Hassan and Venkat.

In Group 2 action, Hussain Nashaba and Mohammed Al Mosawi defeated Ali Fakhro and Ebrahim Qaed 6-2, 7-5, while Mohammed Yousef Abdulla and Abdul Majeed Mufiz received a walkover win from Mohab Mangoud and Islam Abo Alam.

After the conclusion of the three groups playing round-robin group matches, eight players advance to the quarter finals on June 7 with the top two from the three groups advancing along with the best third placed pairs in Group 1 and 2, the semi-finals are set for June 10 and the final match on June 18.

A second tournament for The Late Majid Al Zayani Cup - Super Doubles resumes tonight with the third round of matches and comprises two round-robin group matches with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals on June 11 and the final set for June 13.

In a Group 1 match held over in this competition, Kadri and Ahmed Rizk defeated Emad Ali and Yousef Fakhro 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile, The Late Ahmed Al Mahoozi Cup - Master Singles qualifiers get underway tonight, they features 23 players and take place each night until next Thursday in a knockout format to determine the two players who will join the main draw with eight players receiving automatic
entry.

The main competition comprises two groups of five players and matches start on June 9 in the round-robin format, with the semi-finals on June 16 and the final on June 17.

Group 1 - Rick De Groot, Hassan Abdul Redha, Yousif Qaed, Abdul Rahman Janahi, Qualifier 1. Group 2 - Karim Abdul Redha, Eric Lavaud, Ahmed Janahi, Al Alasfoor.
