Manama : The third raffled car out of 10 allotted in Nasser 10 Football Tournament was won by Taher Al Sayegh yesterday. Upon receiving the prize, Al Sayegh praised the initiative of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa,  Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), saying: I express my sincerest gratitude to HH Shaikh Nasser for appreciating spectators as a key pillar in Nasser 10’s success.”

“I always impatiently await Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Games and attend all matches and follow my team in the tournament and will continue to do so. I was very surprised when my ticket number was announced,” he added.

A fourth raffled car will be given away tomorrow during the semi-final matches.

Meanwhile the semi-finals of the tournament will be held today, while all eyes will be on the match between Victorious and Batelco Gunners United. The latter will be looking to avenge last year’s loss in the penalty shootout, but the game is expected to be a narrowly contested match. Victorious qualified for the semis after defeating Nomas 3-1 despite going one man down in the 39th minute after player Mohammed Shareef was sent off and Batelco Gunners United thrashed Suqoor Al Bahrain 5-0 to reach this stage.

Brazilian player Diego of Batelco Gunners United is now the leading scorer after contributing a hat-trick in his team’s victory over Suqoor Al Bahrain and now has six goals. Last season he was the top scorer with 10 goals.

In a great initiative from the High Organising Committee, two championships in Gymnastic and Taekwondo will be organised on Thursday in Seef Mall, in collaboration with the Bahrain Gymnastic Association and Bahrain Self Defence Federation. This is the first time to organise sports events outside playing fields and gymnasiums. These two championships are expected to wide-ranging participation from performers from both genders.

Commenting on this, President of the High Organising Committee, Tawfiq Al Salehi said that the committee looks for providing unique events in line with the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games. “We want to achieve a quantum leap in our organisation to Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games. Holding such championships inside a shopping mall represents a great step forward, and will contribute in cementing gymnastics and taekwondo in the Kingdom,” he explained.
