Nasser 10: Victorious to face Batelco Gunners

Manama : The semi-finals of the Nasser 10 Football Tournament take place today with holders Victorious facing Batelco Gunners United at 9pm, followed by Al Nawayef and Al Fakhar at 11:15pm. Both games will take place at Khalifa Sports City Football Stadium in Isa Town.

The match between Victorious and Batelco Gunners United is a repeat of last year’s final, where the former broke the hearts of their opponents in the penalty shootout. Victorious qualified to this round after defeating Nomas 3-1 despite going one man down in the 39th minute after their player Mohammed Shareef was sent off.

Meanwhile, Batelco Gunners United thrashed Suqoor Al Bahrain 5-0 to reach this round. The defending champions have several key players in their squad, including Isa Mousa, Faisal Al Nahash, Fawaz bu Shaqer and hitman Baqer Al Asfoor.

The Batelco team will rely heavily on the top scorer of last year’s tournament Brazilian Diego, who is also leading the scoring charts this time around and also includes several former Bahraini international players such as Talal Yousif and Mahmood Abdulrahman.

Batelco Gunners United are the only team yet to win this prestigious tournament among the semi-finalists.

In the other match, Al Fakhar and Al Nawayef have an equal chance to progress to the final. Al Nawayef have been to this point counting on young players such as Ahmed Rashid and Brazilian Christian. Al Fakhar, on the other hand, are example of the team playing in complete harmony due to their steadiness in their squad. Players to watch in their squad are Mahdi Humaidan, Mohammed Radhi and Mustafa Yaqoob.
