Nass, Al Goud advance

Manama : Khalid Nass and Yousif Al Goud needed a second set tie-break to defeat Karim Hajjar and Khalid Janahi 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in Group 2 in the third round of matches for The Late Majid Al Zayani Cup - Super Doubles at the Bahrain Tennis Club Ramadan Tournament at its premises in Juffair. 

In another match, Mahmood and Abdul Rahman Janahi ran out easy 6-1, 6-1 winners against Ashraf Atabani and Ahmed Jaffar.

Group 1 action saw Ahmed Janahi and Salman Hassan beat Kadri and Ahmed Rizk 6-2, 6-2 and Ali Al Asfoor and Roy Boutagy beat Ahmed Dhaif and Bassim Sarwani 6-1, 6-3.

The competition comprises two round-robin group matches with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals next Sunday and the final set for June 13.

In The Late Yousif Khalil Al Moayyed Cup - Doubles, the players are in three groups playing round-robin group matches, eight players advance to the quarter finals tomorrow, comprising the top two from the three groups advancing along with the best third placed pairs in Group 1 and 2, the semi-finals are set for Saturday and the final match on June 18.

Meanwhile, The Late Ahmed Al Mahoozi Cup - Master Singles qualifiers is underway and features 23 players in a qualifying knockout format until Thursday to determine the two players who will join the main draw with eight players receiving automatic entry.

Serwin Rampersad progressed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Avneet Singh, while Floris Jan Hinnen was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Radovan Misic and both Salman Hassan and Isa Al Sammak received  walkover wins against Koen Van Der Drift and Jasper Meinema respectively.

The main competition comprises two groups of five players and matches start on Friday in the round-robin format, with the semi-finals on June 16 and the final on June 17.
