Bahrain Merida extends deal with Colbrelli

Manama : Sonny Colbrelli, 27-year-old former member of Bardiani Team,  who has been in the Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team since its establishment at the beginning of their first WorldT season in 2017, has extended his contract with the team for another year.

Colbrelli is one of the most important sprinters and all-rounders of the team who has produced some excellent performances and some significant results in the previous months. He won the Brabantse Pijl, was ninth at Amstel Gold Race and won Stage 2 of Paris-Nice.

Also Colbrelli took second place on Stage 4 and third place on Stage 1 of Tour of Oman and 10th place overall on Roonde van Vlaanderen. Beside that, he has showed some excellent sprints and solid finishes and also worked great with the rest of the Team.

“We at Bahrain Merida are very pleased to have found an agreement with Sonny to extend his contract with the team, Sonny was one of the first riders to believe in this project when he originally signed and yet again we are proud to say he is one of the first to renew with this contractual extension. Sonny is a huge asset to the team, we have seen how his improvement and confidence has increased in the past few months, he is learning to take on the role of a true leader,” Brent Copeland, General Manager of the team said.

“I’m really happy to announce the extension of my contract with Bahrain Merida,” commented Sonny Colbrelli.

“From the beginning my relationship with the team, my new teammates, sports directors, mechanics, masseurs, team managers and everyone else was great. They trust me and consider me a leader, a captain. When I received this proposal to renew my contract I didn’t think twice. I am grateful to Bahrain Merida because they are taking me to the top of pro cycling, to compete with big champions worldwide. I have great staff around me and amazing teammates that support me in each race and motivate me to do the best,” Colbrelli added.
