Brushing her dreams nuevo & spry
Painting as an art seems to be an easy job if you don’t know how to draw. But for those who have a talent and knowledge on drawing, it is a very difficult job. Some say drawing a picture, is depicting the impressions or images our eyes capture. Some say artists recreate their memories of events and things, without making much of their own contributions, not even the fine details. This could eventually make the art hollow.
Meet Jawaher Jamal Rustam, a student of University of Bahrain, who has been a master of brushes ever since she first learned to pick one up. She started painting to express those feelings, which cannot be conveyed through verbal communication.
Speaking to DT News, the young talent, who specializes in Marketing at the University, said, “When it comes to brushes and strokes, I prefer modern art and particularly I love to draw circular images. It gives me more control on the stroke edges.”
Normally, Jawaher takes up to five hours to finish a work. “It really depends on the nature of the work. I have also completed five pictures in one day, but those were simple.”
While doing abstract painting, Jawaher experiments with sharp painting tools like sponges, toothbrushes to add a specific texture. Portraits are usually done with coloured pencils or pastel colours.
“I have always tried to show different perspectives of life in my art. The black and white combinations are often used to portray the wavy nature of life, the falls and heights,” she said.
Talking about painters in general, she said that inborn talent is the most distinguishing element of successful painters. Two most important qualities that painter should posses are creativity, and ability to come up with an idea that is radically distinctive.
Adding that a painter should be patient and intelligent enough to know how to direct the creative energy towards the right path.
“The quality that I am looking forward is to be able to develop a strong vision. Every great painter had a strong sense of vision. If we acquire it, we can easily achieve the desired end result at the outset of a project. This vision keeps developing with experience and with time,” Jawaher said.
Talking about her future plans and goals, she told to DT News, “In the next few years, I am looking forward to develop a more creative platform, and the canvas size will be bigger compared to now. Experimenting with colours is also an option. I am also participating in an art exhibition in May this year at my University as part of the attempts to hold some art exhibitions, which will offer me ample experience as a young artist to learn and explore more about this art.”
