Sala beats Janahi in Q-finals
Manama : Spaniard Joan Sala defeated Bahraini Ahmed Janahi 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 in the men’s quarter finals on the eighth day of the 68th Indian Club Y.K.Almoayyed Open Tennis Ramadan Tennis Tournament at its premises in Gudaibiya.
Sala was worth his victory as earlier in the tournament had knocked out top seed and Davis Cup player Yousif Qaed.
In another quarter final, Frenchman Eric L won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 against Bahraini youngster Mohammed Abdul A’al.
Men’s doubles action saw Yousif Qaed and Elias Abdul Redha defeat Radovan Misic and John Kaye 6-1, 6-2 and Eric and Rahul Jaideep were 6-2, 6-0 winners over Anthony and Giby P 6-2, 6-0.
In veterans singles, Stalin Joseph beat Somnathan 6-1, 6-1 and in doubles action, Dr. John M Chacko and Lester Ferrao brushed aside Greg Esquivel and Nilo 6-0, 6-1 and Indian Club President Cassius Pereira won 7-6 after Uday Shanbaug of Indian Club had to retire.
