No place for extremism in society: Deputy King
Manama : Extremism has no place in the modern, civilised societies, said Deputy King, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday, adding that the conflict between moderation and extremism points to the importance of preventing religions from being politicised.
Prince Salman was visiting the Majlises of Chairman of the Shura Council, Ali Saleh Al Saleh, Abdul Hussain Khalaf Al Asfoor and Faisal Jawad. HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa accompanied HRH during the visits.
Stressing Bahrain’s firm commitment to confronting extremism and illicit funding of terrorism, the Deputy King said, “Supporting extremism inside the GCC or anywhere in the world cannot be tolerated.”
HRH added that the principles of pluralism and moderation underpin Bahrain’s enduring efforts to defeat all forms of extremism and terrorism. “This have long driven the country’s commitment to protecting the unity of its society from external exploitation by choosing development over destruction, coexistence against retaliation, and moderation instead of extremism,” said Prince Salman.
The Deputy King further praised the Kingdom’s longstanding diversification efforts, adding that the non-oil sector grew by 3.7 per cent last year.
