Souqs provided with wheelchairs

ManamaFor the first time, wheelchairs have been made available at Manama and Muharraq traditional markets to enable senior residents and special needs residents to tour the souq. Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) donated the wheelchairs to the Manama and Muharraq traditional market to aid older residents and persons with special needs in touring and shopping at the souq. The Manama Souq received 18 wheelchairs while the Muharraq souq got 4. The wheelchairs have been placed in various areas of the souq, a souq official told DT News.

“We have placed it adjacent to Gold Souq, City Mart and Yateem Center. The wheelchairs arrived at the start of Ramadan and people have begun using it. As its awareness increases we expect more visits from senior visitors and those with special needs. We will gladly welcome anyone who wishes to tour the souq using the wheelchair. This will be useful not only for those who live in Bahrain but also for tourists. The wheelchairs will be available at any time of the day or night as long as the Souq is open,” the official said.

“This is only the beginning. We have been told that more such donations can be expected. This is a great initiative taken by the BCCI. We, at the Souq are very grateful for their donation,” he added.
