BOC General Assembly set

Manama : The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) 37th General Assembly and elections for the 2017/2020 term are all set for today and being hosted at the Swiss Bellhotel in Seef for the next three-year term board.

Today’s programme commences with presentations of the administrative report for the 2015/16 period, in addition to the financial report for the year 2016.

The committee’s suggest budget for 2017 will also be discussed, in addition to the achievements between January 2014 and April 2017.

BOC has completed all required arrangements to bring a very successful general assembly and election, which sees 11 candidates vying for the allocated seven vacancies for the three-year cycle.

They include presidents of six sports federations - Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa (table tennis), Shaikh Mohammed bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (swimming), Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (cycling), Ali Ishaqi (handball), Khalid Al Khayyat (mixed martial arts) and Abdulla Al Dossary (gymanstics).

The remaining five are Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa (tennis), Shaikh Hamad bin Rashid Al Khalifa (shooting), Saleh Faraj (fencing), Bader Nasser (athletics) and Adel Al Fayyad (golf), while Maritime Sports Federation vice-president Noaman Al Hasan has withdrawn from the election.

Three non-Olympic sports federations’ candidates, Isa Abdulrahim (Sports for All Federation), Ahmed Al Nuaimi (Bowling) and Rashid Al Zayani (Motorsport) will be vying for one additional BOC board seat.

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has clinched the VIP dedicated position, in addition to swimmer Omar Al Malki, who recently became the new BOC’s Athletes Commission chairman.
