Al Farooq Junction set to open today
Manama : Al Farooq Junction will be thrown open for traffic today after almost six years of closure.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning announced the opening of new traffic signals on the intersection of King Faisal Highway next to the Central Manama Market and Avenue 28 coming from Dana Mall and Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre.
“In the light of this, traffic signal phasing will change at the intersection of King Faisal Highway and Budaya Highway, next to Al Montazah Supermarket, to align with the new traffic signals at King Faisal Highway and Avenue 28. “The new traffic signals and the new signal phasing will be introduced from today.
“Citizens and Residents are kindly requested to adhere to traffic rules and traffic signs for their safety and that of others,” said the ministry in a press statement issued here yesterday.
Formerly known as the GCC or Pearl Roundabout, it was demolished by the government on March 18, 2011, and following that the government announced that the roundabout would be replaced with traffic lights to ease congestion in the financial district, changing the name of the site to Al Farooq Junction.
Earlier, the public was restricted from accessing Al Farooq Junction as the area was sealed off by forces for security reasons.
