Prison guards foil bid to smuggle in drugs

ManamaDuring a routine check up with the use of device detectors, prison guards foiled an attempt by their colleague to smuggle drugs to inmates, the High Criminal Court was heard.

The police officer was reported to have wrapped the drugs by metal foil and hid it underneath his belt. But the detector buzzed, and his colleagues discovered his misconduct. He, as per court documents, admitted to his wrongdoing and revealed to prosecutors that he was going to smuggle the drugs to two inmates. Thus, prison guards headed to the inmates’ cell and unearthed a wifi device, cigarettes and a lighter. The trio was put on trial in connection with attempting to smuggle drugs.

“I was facing a financial trouble and I agreed with the inmates to smuggle drugs into their cell in exchange of BD3000. I received BD2000 from a stranger outside the prison and he gave me the drugs,” the accused police officer said.
