10-year jail for IS member
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced an Islamic State member to 10 years behind bars and stripped his Bahraini nationality.
The accused was charged with spreading false news and possession of firearm, convicting him for all of these charges.
“I am a terrorist and I support the Islamic State,” the 23-year-old told prosecutors during questioning, according to court records.
The man has two relatives who are IS members and had their Bahraini nationality stripped off by a court order.
According to the detective who investigated the case, the youth was an extremist and a member of the banned terrorist organisation, the Islamic State.
The detective told prosecutors that the accused man had links between members of the Islamic State in Bahrain and those overseas.
It said that he provided them with information about security personnel in order to plot attacks against them.
He was also very active in staining the image of Bahrain and its judicial and security systems on the internet.
Police officers had found several military equipment and a 9mm pistol as well as a t-shirt with Osama bin Laden’s photo printed on it.
The youth had reportedly attempted to flee from Bahrain, but failed to do so.
