Ayad bows out to Mussabek
Manama : Bahrain’s Hussain Ayad of the KHK MMA team bowed out to Uzbekistan’s Yernaz Mussabek via submission (Triangle Arm Bar) after one minute 24 seconds of the first round yesterday in the semi-finals of the Flyweight division at the 2017 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Asian Amateur Open Championships at Marina Bay Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre in Singapore.
Ayad won bronze medals at the 2015 European Championships in Birmingham, England and in this year’s European Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.
In other action featuring KHK MMA fighters, Briton Benjamin Charles Robson defeated Nayef Fikri in the lightweight division via submission (Triangle Choke) after one minute 14 seconds in Round 1 and Belarus fighter Alex Sadovski beat Abbas Khan via submission (arm-in-guillotine) after one minute 28 seconds in Round 1 in the welterweight division.
The Bahrainis are accompanied by Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation board member Yousif Al Kooheji and coach Eldar Eldarov.
A total of 17 nations are participating - Australia, Bahrain, Belarus, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, UK and US, with Belarus, Chinese Taipei, Singapore and South Korea making their debuts.
