‘Yoga for health’

Manama : The United Nations Information Centre for the Gulf Countries (UNIC Manama) will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 at the Sar Mall, it was announced. 

The theme for the 2017 celebration is ‘Yoga for Health’. The event is being organised in collaboration with a group of volunteers (Helm Insan) and several charitable centres and associations specialised in charity, health and social work. 

“This year, the event will be geared towards engaging the community, all ages, all conditions, Yoga is for everyone,” said Prof. Fatima Al Mansoori, Yoga Therapist at the BDF Hospital Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre. Mansoori will address the gathering.  

Commenting on the theme ‘Yoga for Health’, Samir Aldarabi UNIC Manama Director, said that the theme highlights the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving a balance between mind and body. 

He said, “Yoga can make a direct and useful contribution to sustainable development and move towards lifestyles that in harmony with nature. 

Our celebration gathers a mix audience and send a message that any sustainable development activity or action should leave no one behind.” 

The programme is intended to engage groups and societies including Bahrain Mobility International for disabled, MS Society, Islamic Association, Abdulrahma Kanoo social parents club and many others. 

“Since the UN announced the Yoga Day in 2014, my focus was on organising press conferences and engaging high ranked dignitaries and officials during the celebrations in order to create maximum awareness. Over the past years, we have succeeded in creating a movement and gaining recognition and support,” said Aldarabi. 

The event includes a seminar, a Yoga session and a Meditation session. In addition, there will be an expo that will include Health & wellness services, organic and herbal products, and free wellness consultations.
