House condemns Qatar bid to destabilise government
Manama : Qatar’s interference in the 2011 crisis and the attempt to overthrow the government were condemned by members of the Legislative Authority yesterday, following Bahrain TV’s expose of a telephone conversation between the Adviser to the Qatari Amir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Attiya and fugitive Bahraini terrorist Hassan Sultan whose citizenship was revoked by a court order.
The conversations showed Qatari persistence to destabilise the security and stability of Bahrain, several MPs and Shura Council members said.
Both were conspiring to spread chaos across Bahrain and cover it on Al Jazeera channnel, the MPs said.
“Everyone was waiting for the brothers in Qatar to be supporters of the Kingdom in the face of external schemes targeting its security and its people, not to have the Qatari officials joining hands with terrorists to fulfil these plans against Bahrain,” Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Member in the House of Representatives Abdulrahman Bumjaid said.
“The recordings aired by Bahrain TV demonstrate the integrity of the Bahraini judiciary system and send a clear message that the judgments of our case are based on the right causes, because the sentence of the terrorist Hasan Sultan and revoking his citizenship was made because of his communications with foreign parties against the interests of Bahrain. Bahrain is proving day by day that it will remain stubborn to those who try to tamper with its security and stability,” Bumjaid added.
The Qatari Government hasn’t denied the aired conversation between Al Attiya and Sultan and said it was within its attempts to solve the situations in Bahrain back in 2011.
Commenting on the Qatari official response, Shura Council Member Jameela Salman said, “The statement issued by Qatar has confirmed that the calls are true and that Qatar’s claim that these calls from the mediation efforts known to Bahrain reflects the extent of Qatar’s insistence on its misleading policy and its lack of reason.
‘The call and context confirm that the relationship between the adviser of the Qatari Amir and the terrorist Hassan Sultan, and that this terrorist is a link in addition to intelligence role in the transfer of information on the situation of Bahrain to Qatar,” Salman said.
“The conversation confirms Qatar’s provocative role as the adviser of the Amir of Qatar offered to utilise Al Jazeera channel to broadcast news and serve the agenda of Qatar and Iran, carried out by traitors of the Kingdom. Qatar and Iran have played an integral role in order to harm Bahrain and destabilise its security and expose it to terrorism,” Salman commented.
“Qatar was and still is a brotherly and friendly country. We are surprised by the Qatari conspiracy that revealed the involvement of the Emir of Qatar’s adviser in positions and events that have caused chaos in Bahrain,” MP Roua Al Hayki said, adding “We strongly reject foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom, and we have repeatedly stressed on our sovereignty and privacy in the management of our internal affairs. We work day and night hard to restore security and peace on our land, which was and remains the centre of foreign ambitions.”
