Three get jail for bid to detonate gas cylinders

ManamaThe High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced three persons to three years behind bars for attempting to detonate a gas cylinder in Diraz village.

The incident reportedly happened on December 19 last year, when the men agreed to attack police officers stationed in the village before they tried to set off the cylinder.

According to court files, they used fire extinguishers to shoot glass balls at police officers. They fled the scene after cops intervened, and headed to the home of the second. They took his father’s vehicle and went to an abandoned house, from where they took the gas cylinder and placed it inside a waste container along with a tyre in a public park in the village.

They poured petrol in the container and set it alight in a bid to blow up the cylinder. However, police officers made a timely intervention to hinder their plot. The trio was caught following intensified investigations into the incident.
