Minister holds meeting with corporate heads
Manama : Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza yesterday held a meeting with heads of companies operating in the oil, gas and petrochemical sector and explained the background on the establishment of the Sustainable Energy Unit.
He said the two main objectives of the unit are to encourage investment in renewable energy and efficiency and rationalization of energy consumption.
The Minister said the national objective was adopted by the Council of Ministers for the efficiency of energy and renewable energy. The targets include oil companies and key consumers.
During the meeting, a presentation was made by the unit, which spoke about its objectives and plans and its initiatives in general as well as related to the petroleum, petrochemical and gas industries.
Dr. Mirza also reviewed the activities and achievements of the National Committee to follow up the implementation of these plans, through its agenda and sub-committees, as well as the initiatives that are included in the national plans.
Director General of Oil & Gas Affairs and Chairman of the Petroleum and Petrochemical Industries Subcommittee, Jassim Al Shirawi, presented the work plan of the subcommittee and the proposed programme for its agenda, which will include representatives from all major national companies operating in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.
The heads of companies agreed to support the national energy plans and the work of the National Committee for follow-up implementation in addition to their readiness to support the efforts and objectives of the Sustainable Energy Unit.
The meeting was attended by the heads of Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Tatweer Petroleum Company, Bahrain National Gas Company (BNAGAS) and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC).
Dr. Ahmed Al Shariyan, Secretary General of the National Oil and Gas Authority and Jehan Al Murbati, Executive Director of the Sustainable Energy Unit and a number of officials also attended the function.
