Six accused in Daih rioting case gets jail

ManamaSix persons were found guilty yesterday by a High Criminal Court which sentenced three of them to five years behind bars, while the remaining accused men received jail terms between 1-3 years.

A seventh defendant was involved in this case, but he was cleared due to lack of evidence.

The accused are said to have been involved in a riot that broke out in the village of Daih on January 12, 2017. According to court files, the number of the culprits who engaged in the incident was 10, but only seven were later arrested as the remaining saboteurs’ identity remained unknown.

Prosecutors revealed that the first accused was the one who distributed firebombs to his co-defendants prior to the attack. They pelted them at police officers stationed in Daih, after which they fled because police officers fired tear gas canisters at them.

The defendants were tried in connection with rioting, using firebombs and arson.
