GPIC takes a green step

Manama : The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has honoured the winners of the 13th Education and Environmental Research Programme for the year 2016-17, during the celebrations of the Company’s Safety, Health and Environment Day.

The top place was won by the Istiqlal Secondary School for Girls for its project on the multiple use of lubricants for cars, while the Omaima Bint Al-Nu’man Secondary Girls School won second place for its research on Epiphytic plants. The Al Hidd Secondary School for Girls came in third place with its project on producing bioethanol from paper waste.

GPIC General Manager Manufacturing Fadhel Al Ansari honoured the winners on behalf of the Company President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery.

The programme is the first of its kind in supporting and sponsoring scientific research in the field of the environment. The programme, launched by the Company in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education in 2004, aims at encouraging students of Bahrain’s schools to conduct research in environmental subjects.

In a statement, Dr. Jawahery spoke of the success of the programme and said the programme succeeded to a large extent in raising awareness of environmental issues and correcting many harmful environmental practices.

Dr. Jawahery praised the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, headed by Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi, who had spared no effort to provide all support for the success of the programme.

He said the Company would continue programmes and events that raise awareness and support and protect the environment.
