Court upholds 15yr term in fuel station bomb attack case

Manama : A Bahraini court has upheld the conviction and 15-year jail sentence awarded to three men for attempting to bomb a local fuel station three years ago.

The trio was charged with attempting to bomb a private property and arson as well as possessing firebombs and threatening an employee with a knife.

According to the facts of the case, the trio attacked Sakhir fuel station three years ago with firebombs and placed a gas cylinder in the middle of the property to detonate it.

They also tried to attack the employees working at the fuel station, who managed to escape unhurt by locking themselves inside the station.

“One of them threatened me with a knife, and I fled as the fire engulfed one of the fuel pumps,” one of the workers told prosecutors.

“The fire then quickly spread to other fuel pumps, which was later put out by the civil defence team,” he said adding: “Fortunately, at that time, no customers were there at the station.”

A member of the National Guard, who reached the scene immediately tried to pursue the culprits. He managed to identify the registration number of the vehicle used by the culprits to flee, leading to their arrest.
