Two men jailed for attacking cops, rioting

Manama : Jail time has been handed down to two men by the High Criminal Court for rioting in Karzakan and assaulting police officers.

The men, according to court files, believed to be part of a group of 15 miscreants caused mayhem in the village on January 22 this year.

The group blocked a road by burning tyres and attacked police officers there with iron rods and firebombs, before fleeing.

However, police officers at the scene managed to prevent the defendants from fleeing.

Their involvement in the crime was further confirmed by matching their fingerprints with those obtained from the riot scene.

Explaining their modus operandi, one of the defendants told police: “I received a message on a WhatsApp group named “Shabab Kazrzakan” (Kazakan Youth), requesting to gather at 3:30pm for rioting.”

“There were around 15 masked men when I reached the meeting point. We began by setting tyres alight and then attacked police officers,” the first defendant said.

“As we were trying to get away, we were caught,” he added.
