Court upholds verdict in drug peddling case

ManamaThe High Criminal Appeals Court upheld the drug peddling conviction of an American student enrolled in a renowned private university in Bahrain.

The defendant was earlier handed down 10 years behind bars and was ordered to be expelled once he completes his jail time.

The defendant was arrested in a sting operation after a police tip-off revealed that he was selling illicit drugs in the Kingdom.

The process was devised by an officer in plain clothes who contacted the student, requesting hashish cigarettes from him. The duo then met in the defendant’s apartment in Busaiteen, where anti-drug squads pounced on the accused upon the completion of the receiving process.

It was reported that the defendant was smoking a hashish cigarette at the time of his arrest.

According to court files, police officers seized a digital scale and other types of drugs from the respondent’s apartment.

He admitted to the charges against him before prosecutors, court files read.
