Man killed after being hit by boat

Manama : A man was killed when he was struck by a speeding boat while swimming at the Al Malkiya Beach on Monday. 

The deceased is identified as Sayed Jalal Al Alawi, who was laid to rest at his hometown in Salmabad yesterday. Though the circumstances of his death was not clear it appears that the boatman might not have been able to see the man swimming in the beach waters. “I was there when the incident happened, and there was a lot of commotion as everyone was warning us to take our kids out of the water. A lot of small incidents keep happening at the beach everyday as there is no security available,” said an eyewitness.

“There are always boats floating around people while people swimming as there is no fixed place allotted for the boats to ride. People just rent the boat and carelessly ride without keeping the speed limit in mind. Most of the times you would see people or kids swimming and the boats would be riding or anchored near them,” he said.

“With no fixed place earmarked for boats and swimmers, the riders are also unable to see people swimming in the waters. During sunset there isn’t enough light in the area either and no security available to ensure the safety of people,” he added.  MOI also tweeted on the incident and stating necessary actions are being taken.
