Work on Zayed Town road development underway
Manama : Work has commenced on constructing an entrance and exit points to Zayed Town from Shaikh Salman Highway at the Southern part of the Driving School, Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam Khalaf has said. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion along the new housing areas and other vital sectors and reduce traffic congestion across the roads network in Bahrain.
Khalaf explained that the project comprises of constructing a one-lane entrance and exit to Zayed Town from Shaikh Salman Highway, which will provide an alternative to traffic exiting Zayed Town towards Riffa without having to pass through Isa Town Gate traffic signal. The project will also ease traffic congestion at Salmabad Interchange.
Once completed, the project will also reduce traffic congestion along Isa Town Gate Interchange and Salmabad Interchange.
The Ministry commenced work on the project in the beginning of June 2017. The total length of the entrance to Zayed Town is 500m, and civil works involved in the project were awarded to National Excavations at the cost of BD261,000, while the asphalt paving works were awarded to United Gulf at the cost of BD106,000.
The installation of the iron fence as part of traffic safety was awarded to Al Afoo Company at the cost of BD26,000.
The work includes levelling, protecting existing services, implementing ground channels for present and future usage, implementing a storm water drainage network in low areas, implementing two reclamation layers, paving works, signage and lighting.
The project is part of the Ministry’s plan to ease traffic congestion along Isa Town Gate and Salmabad Interchanges and serve Zayed Town residents and also road users taking the road linked to the Labour Ministry.
