Six principles guide us in fighting terror: FM

Manama : The six guiding principles read out by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry at the end of the Cairo summit are the underlying position of the four Gulf Arab countries in confronting the terrorism of Daesh or Iran, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifah has said.

“These key principles are agreed upon not only by the four countries but also by the whole world,” he said during the press conference in Cairo after a meeting of the foreign ministers of four countries led by Saudi Arabia on  Wednesday. 

Asked whether there was evidence of Muslim Brotherhood’s activities that may be an act of sabotage in the Kingdom of Bahrain, he said: “As a group, the Muslim Brotherhood has clearly harmed Egypt and our countries and thus it is a terrorist organization.” 

Anyone who sympathises with them or claims to be a  part of them will be judged on this basis, Shaikh Khalid  added. 

The Minister said that the Council will discuss this issue in its upcoming meeting in Bahrain. 

He noted that Cairo meeting was a coordination meeting that came after the negative response of Qatar to the demands presented to the Emir of Kuwait, stressing that the decisions to be taken, as the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry said, require exceptional thoroughness, due to their high importance in affecting the situation and clarifying the four countries’ stance. 

He added that all our decisions will be timely and studied thoroughly from all aspects.

On the expected international support to the measures taken against Qatar, the Minister said:

“We need to be clear, there are various sources that support terrorism in the region, and there is a difference between countries like us that fight terrorists, and countries that harbour and support terrorist officially or secretly. This is what we want to shed light on and attract the attention of the international community to.”
