Helping hand for stranded expat

ManamaAloucias Earnest, an Indian expatriate stranded in Bahrain, has been offered help from the authorities as well as from members of the public to clear his debts and travel back to India, it is learnt.

Earnest was left stranded in Bahrain following a travel ban for owing money to two companies. He accumulated the debts when his construction company failed. The 62-year old has also been struggling with illness in recent years

“The travel ban was placed as he has a BD3400 debt to a company here. Recently, we also found out that he owned another firm over a thousand dinars and he needed to pay that as well. But after discussions these firms agreed to settle it for a smaller amount so we were hopeful of resolving everything. We received all the help from the Indian Embassy and the authorities.

The embassy had requested Alocious to stay in the LMRA shelter so that they can speed up the progress on his case,” Indian Community Relief Fund Bahrain volunteer Sayed Haneef said.

Aloucias could not be reached for comment.
