Bahrain Summer Fest off to an exciting start
Manama : Bahrain Summer Festival 2017 had an exciting start yesterday at the Nakhool Tent located at the Bahrain Fort Site.
It is being organised for the ninth consecutive year by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA).
The first day of this month-long event included activities ranging from origami, video production and recycling workshops taking place in different air-conditioned tents at the venue, with the aim to attract children from different age groups along with their families, as well as to encourage growth and skills development amongst the youth of Bahrain.
This exciting festival will continue until August 7, comprising of many such encouraging activities, such as the “Agricultural Doll” workshop on until July 13 and the “Football and Fitness” workshop, which begins on July 14 and lasts for six days.
From this eventful commencement of the festival, it is evident that it focuses on not only high levels of entertainment for the families that are not travelling during the summer, but more importantly, to promote and shed light on the cultures of Bahrain to the various audiences that it attracts.
The opening ceremony was patronised and attended by BACA President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
While speaking to the DT News on the sidelines of the ceremony, Shaikha Mai highlighted the importance of the festival, saying, “This year, the festival being near the Museum of Bahrain Fort, the location itself plays a crucial role in passing the right message. This is in terms of how to protect Bahrain’s identity and archaeology and to grow as individuals by learning from other people’s experiences”.
Speaking on similar lines, Culture and Arts Director in BACA Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa spoke to DT News about the reasons for initiating such a festival.
“Under the umbrella of BACA, the majority of these events target various age groups of the youth of Bahrain. The festival’s mascots themselves represent Bahrain because they are palm trees and they are significant because they narrate a story of Bahrain’s land, history and identity,” she said.
The officials added that Bahrain Summer Festival 2017 will continue to get more exciting and eventful as the activities continue to take place until the first week of August.
