Seminar on ‘safe summer’ held

ManamaThe Ministry of Labour & Social Development organised a seminar on ‘safe summer’ for workers at the Bahrain Kerala Samajam (BKS) yesterday.

The seminar focussed on preventing accidents and diseases during the summer months.

A presentation was also made on safe work practices during summer.

“Ministry of Health (MoH) participation in this event was to co-ordinate between the Ministry of Labour & Social Development and a couple of medical centers so that the labourers are aware and could get a chance of free medical checkup. Their participation also comes on the sidelines of MoH awareness programme on ‘Promoting Health’ in work sites,” said Ali Hassan Alaradi, Health Promotion Specialist at the Ministry of Health.

“It is our constant effort to reduce the burden of the labourers in the Kingdom and this seminar is one of our initiative to spread awareness and prevent accidents. The seminar is not just to maintain law and safety in the country but also to make sure that the labourers feel a part of the Kingdom and ease their burden as much as we can,” said Undersecretary of Labour & Social Development, Sabah Al Doseri.

“The law was previously implemented only for workers on construction sites but with the rising temperature of the country, it is really important to ban all outdoor work from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. We urge the employers to strictly follow this law or else the ministry would be forced to take strict action against the employers,” he added

The seminar was organised in coordination with the Embassy of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Philipines and Bangladesh to Bahrain, under the patronage of Undersecretary of Labour & Social Development, Sabah Al Doseri.
