King hails rights record of Bahrain
Manama : His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa yesterday asserted Bahrain’s firm commitment to international human rights covenants and laws.
“Human rights represent a core part of Bahrain’s culture, authentic Arab identity and tolerant Islamic faith,” HM King said as he received at Al-Safriya Palace, National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Chairman Said bin Mohammed Al Fihani and board of commissioners members on their appointment by Royal Order. NIHR Acting Secretary-General Dr Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadhel was also present.
King Hamad congratulated them on their appointment and wished them success in assuming the national responsibility, hailing their advocacy competence and expertise. He also commended the dedicated efforts of the outgoing members to instil the principles of human rights in Bahrain.
HM King hailed the competence of Bahrainis working in the field of human rights and their dedicated role in advocating national issues in regional and international arenas. HM the King hailed Bahrain’s 3rd Universal Periodic Review before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, adding that the national report earned the praise of many participating countries. “Bahrain takes pride in its outstanding human rights record which is based on modern and developed constitutional and legal provisions,” he said, hailing Bahrain’s long-standing heritage of coexistence, fraternity, equality and plurality.
