200 tonnes of illegally dumped construction debris removed

Manama : Around 200 tonnes of illegally dumped construction and demolition waste was removed from the Capital Governorate, said the Capital General Secretariat in a statement.

The authority has also given warnings to 35 construction projects in Juffair to rectify their violations soon. The inspections will continue in other parts of the Governorate.

“Violators were given time to rectify the issues at their own expenses,” said General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa adding: “All developers and engineering firms were informed to fence their sites, place building materials and equipment inside the sites and not to dispose of waste in open yards.”

Actions were taken as per Article 15 of the Road Works Law that permits the authority to impose fines and penalties on violators.

Shaikh Mohammed said that the authority would intensify its efforts to ensure that the developers (companies) are complying with the regulatory requirements mentioned in their permits.

“They should adhere to the Road Works Law (2) of 1996, which stipulates that ‘without the authorisation of the municipality, works shall not be permitted with building equipment and materials,” said the General Director.

He also warned that it is the responsibility of the developers to maintain a “civilised view of the Capital”.
