Shaikh Khalid re-elected as West Asian Athletics president

Manama : HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association, has been re-elected unopposed for a new term as a President of the West Asian Athletics Federation. 

This came during the Federation’s ordinary Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Golden Tulip in Manama.

The new term will run until 2020 and the federation composed of 12 countries, with representatives of 11 countries attending from - Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and Lebanon.

This AGM was opened by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar with a welcoming note from HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. 

The AGM concluded with holding the elections of the new Board of Directors under the supervision of the General Secretary of Rashid Al Buaineen, General Secretary of the Bahrain Athletics Association, Nasser Al Moameri of UAE was elected unopposed as a Vice President of the new board following the withdrawal of his opponent Sayyar Al Anzi from Kuwait.

Joining the new board after the elections were Shaje Mohammed of Yemen (11 votes), Waseem Jerchy of Lebanon (11 votes), Rafeeq Hamouda of Jordan (11 votes), Ahmed bin Salem (10 votes), Zaidoon Jawad of Iraq (9 votes) and female representative Fatima Jabara of Palestine.
