Futsal League tournament begins
Manama : HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Honorary President of Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities deputised on Monday Minister of Sports Hisham Al Jowder to inaugurate the matches of the Fifth Khalid bin Hamad Futsal League for Youth Centres, People with Disabilities and Girls (Khalid 5).
This event continues until September 14 at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town and is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in cooperation with the Media Office of Shaikh Khalid and comes within the sports and humanitarian initiatives of Shaikh Khalid under the theme #Generations_Meeting.
Shaikh Khalid stressed the aim of the league in supporting youth in all fields and invest in their energies, skills and talents.
Shaikh Khalid also praised the sponsors of the tournament and the participating teams and athletes, noting the huge turnout and the popularity gained by the league among Bahraini youth over the past years.
The Minister had earlier inspected the tournament venue and praised the great efforts paid by the organisers in ensuring the success of the league and the patronage of Shaikh Khalid.
The Minister also noted that the league offers youth the opportunity to develop their talents and skills and enable citizens with disabilities to integrate into different activities.
Also at the inauguration were organising committee members and representatives from various ministries, youth centres and sponsors.
Meanwhile, the football competition is underway with the first four matches played, starting with Safrah Youth Centre defeating Muharraq Youth Centre 5-1, followed by Al Buhair’s 2-0 win over Buri, then Karzakan and Abu Saibi were tied at 2-1 and concluding with a 6-3 victory for Naeem against Dumistan.
On the sidelines of the tournament is a historic photo exhibition documenting previous editions and the accompanying activities and showcasing the talents of Bahraini youth in different fields, including photography.
Also launched a specialised radio show discussing the events of Khalid 5 matches, with the first episode of the show hosted by Ali Al Arabi, Director of Khalid 5, which reviewed the preparations and anticipations of the tournament. The efforts of Shaikh Khalid to support and enable the youth and the disabled were also hailed and highlighted in the show. It is aired live on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 pm.
