Salwa powers to 400m final with record
Manama : Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser posted a second consecutive national record in the second heat of the women’s 400 metres semi-finals at the 16th IAAF World Championships last night in London as she raced to victory clocking 50.08 seconds.
Naser edged out American Allyson Felix (50:12) by the narrowest of margins, with Novlene Williams-Mills (50:67) from Jamaica in third.
Earlier in the qualification race on Sunday, Naser (50:57) broke the old national record ahead of the final tomorrow, after finishing ahead of American Phyllis Francis (50:94) and Williams-Mills (51:00).
In heat three of the women’s hurdles 400 metres, Aminat Yusuf Jamal came in sixth place in 57.41 seconds as Jamaica’s Ristananna Tracey (54:92) cruised in first.
Bahrain’s Salem Eid Yaqoub (20:84) missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals after finishing sixth in heat four of the men’s 200 metres.
