Futsal League: Sanad, Sehla advance

ManamaSanad Youth Centre defeated Zallaq Youth Centre in a penalty shootout after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw on the fourth day of the Round of 16 knockout matches in the Fifth Khalid bin Hamad Futsal League for Youth Centres, People with Disabilities and Girls (Khalid 5) at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town.

The win puts Sanad into the quarter-finals, despite the loss on penalties, Zallaq’s Ali Al Noobi was adjudged as man of the match for his exceptional performance.

South Sehla Youth Centre also advanced to the quarter-finals after edging Saar Club 3-2 thanks to a man of the match performance by striker Ibrahim Al Qassab who netted a hat-trick.

The latest dignitary to attend the matches was HH Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, International Affairs Undersecretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who also toured the different sections and met with the players, match officials and organisers.

Meanwhile, Salama Ateeq, Head of the Girls’ Tournament Committee has confirmed that the girls’ teams competitions will begin today and expressed her appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Honorary President of Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities for including girls’ teams in this year’s league for the first time.

Six teams will compete in this category divided into two groups. Three matches will be held on the first day at 4.30pm between Team Challenge and Team Will, followed at 5.15pm by Team Will and Team Hope and concluding at 6pm with Team Challenge and Team Hope. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-final knockout.

The teams have been named by the committee to reflect Shaikh Khalid’s humanitarian qualities.
