Bahrain lose in straight sets to Turkey
Manama : Bahrain under coach Yousuf Khalifa Alasbool were defeated in straight sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 by Turkey in the 9th to 16th Classification matches of the 2017 FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship at Shaikh Isa Sports City in Riffa.
Initially Bahrain started well and were tied at 6-6 in the first set, but then the Turks came stronger and then held a 16-9 advantage which they comfortably held on to and win the opening set.
The second set was similar at the beginning with the scores tied at 6-6 and pretty close until midway when Turkey went 13-10 up and maintained its lead to clinch the second set.
Third set action was close with the Turkish team narrowly head at 12-11 and then Bahrain nudged ahead at 18-17 and held on at 22-22 before the Turks finished off stronger to win in straight sets.
Top scoring for Turkey was Adis Lagumdzija (21) for Turkey and Ali Deniz Yilman (12) and for Bahrain Hussain Thamer (12)..
Bahrain play Cuba today at 3pm in a 13th-16th place classification match.
Japan maintained a perfect record with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) straight sets victory over the Czech Republic with the top scorers for the victors being Kento Miyaura (24) and Tutsanori Otsuka (17) and for the Czech’s Marek Sobola (13) and Jan Svoboda (11).
Iran also maintained its perfect record and a semi-final place following a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-15) win over Brazil.
Top scorers for Iran were Porya Yali (20) and Amirhossein Esfandiar (14) and for Brazil Victor Aleksander Almeida Cardoso (13) and Welinton Oppenkoski (13).Adis Lagumdzija (12) for Turkey.
All are welcome to attend the matches and entrance is 500 fils per person and tickets are available at the gate.
