Percussion jamboree from October 5 to 6 in Bahrain

ManamaOver 150 Indian percussionists will perform at a major music and cultural extravaganza to be be held from October 5 and 6 at the Indian School Bahrain premises in Isa Town, the organisers said at a press conference held at Adliya yesterday.

Sopanam Vadya Kala Sangham, in association with Choice Advertising and Publicity, will be organising the event entitled ‘Vadyasangaman 2017’. The event will include a percussion ensemble involving 150 artists. 

According to the organisers, such a performance will be the first of its kind to be held outside of India. 

The first day of the event will feature ‘Sopana Sangeetham’ which will be performed by renowned percussionist Shri Ambalapuzha Vijayakumar.  

A  ‘Triple Thayambaka’ will be performed by Padmashri Mattannur Sankarankutty Maraar, Shri Mattannur Sreekanth and Mattannur Sreeraj. 

Day-two will kick off with the performance ‘Kombu Pattu’ followed by ‘Kuzhal Pattu’.  

Day-two will also feature ‘Erattapanthy Panchaari Melam’ to be performed by more than 150 percussionists on a special custom-built stage arranged at the Indian School ground.

“This event will mesmerize the audience with several percussion arts of Kerala in its various forms. “Vadyasangamam 2017” will be steered under the leadership of legendary percussionist ‘Padmashri Mattannur Sankarankutty Maraar’,” the organizers said. 

The event will also include a felicitation ceremony to honour Shri V.K. Rajasekharan Pillai, industrialist, social worker and winner of “Pravaasi Bharatheeya Award” from government of India.  

The event will also honour Bharathashri Radhakrishnan, a dance master.
