20 additional vets to monitor public abattoirs during Eid
Manama : Additional veterinarians and assistants have been assigned to supervise public abattoirs during the approaching Eid Al Adha holidays, as the demand increases for livestock slaughter.
Agriculture and Marine Resources Affairs in Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry announced in a statement issued here yesterday that a team consisting of 20 vets and 12 veterinary technicians have been tasked to supervise the 10 public abattoirs in the Kingdom, as part of the Ministry’s preparations for the Eid Al Adha season.
“This comes within the ministry’s preparations for Eid Al Adha and in accordance with the best health standards. The demand for slaughtered cattle and fresh meat increases during this time of the year. The ministry seeks meeting public demands and to preserve public health in the Kingdom,” the Ministry said in a statement.
“The specialised veterinary teams were provided to carry out the accurate tests and ensure the safety of the slaughtered animals. Animal Health and Control Department has suspended all veterinarians’ vacations and formed an emergency team to cover all working hours. Unlicensed random abattoirs should be avoided, considering the health hazards they have on the public health. The public must be aware of the dangers of slaughtering outside the approved abattoirs for public health and safety. There are inspection committees working in cooperation with Health Ministry to inspect local meat markets to ensure that the official slaughter seals are on the displayed meat. Violators will face legal accountability,” the ministry added in the statement.
According to the ministry, the approved slaughterhouses are: Hamala Abattoir and the five temporary abattoirs in its vicinity, Al Reem Company Abattoir, Muharraq Abattoir and the two mobile abattoirs in Riffa.
