Preparations in full swing for Delmon Rehab centre

ManamaPreparations are underway for a unique and dedicated rehabilitation centre, Delmon Rehab, a fully equipped rehabilitation hospital for post-stroke, post-trauma, post-surgery patients that require specialised care.

The centre, with an initial investment of US$10 million, will become fully operational in multiple phases, announced Head of the Steering Committee of Delmon Rehab Mahmood Alsoofi.

“Delmon Rehab will be a dedicated, top of the line, rehabilitation centre both for patient care and other facilities,” he added.

‘Much Needed’

“The centre is a much-needed one both for patient’s recovery and well-being,” said Consultant Neurologist, Dr Farzana Abdul Karim Alsayed adding that the hospitals here are “currently catering in the area of acute care, even as there is a need for continuous and postoperative care.”

“There is a lot of pressure on the families to provide and find that care, which can be stressful.” Delmon Rehad, according to her, will fill a gap in the market and “support the patients, the family and the doctors on the path to recovery.”

‘Stroke on the rise’

While highlighting the need for introducing inpatient rehabilitation and other related services in the Kingdom, Dr Alsayed, however, warned that there is an alarming increase in the incidence of stroke, which has “nearly doubled within the last two decades in Bahrain”.

“This is alarming and needs to be addressed immediately to manage the burden of the disease with better health outcomes,” she stressed.

Para medical team

Point Advisory Group was appointed as the PMO Advisor of the project.  Imad Bokhari, the Managing Director of Point Advisory Group said, “We are bringing to the project our regional experience in the healthcare sector.” The Steering Committee members include Abdulnabi Al Shoala, Mishal Al Shoala of Al Fanar Investment Holding Co., Stefan Moench of E.K.Kanoo, Talal Al Zain, Mahmood Al Soofi and Dr Omar Ebrahim Sharif.

Abdulnabi Al Shoala, the founder and advisor to the board of AlFanar Investment Holding Co., said, “We are working closely with the authorities to ensure that Delmon Rehab meets the needs of patients in the Kingdom and neighbouring GCC Countries.”

Alsoofi added, “Delmon Rehab will mobilize a para medical team to provide rehabilitation care to those who need them at home as a first step.”

“We are recruiting highly trained medical professionals who will be equipped with mobile facilities for full patient care.

“We envisage doubling the inpatient capacity of the centre in the second phase, and will be able to provide specialised care for patients from the GCC countries as well,” he added.
