Mosque theft: Sentence reduced

ManamaThe Third High Criminal Court yesterday reduced the sentence of an accomplice of a mosque robber from six months of imprisonment to three months.

The man was previously convicted of hiding donations money that his friend stole from Anas Ibn Malik Mosque in Budaiya town in the Northern Governorate earlier this year.

Court files showed that imam of the mosque notified Budaiya Police Station that the metal donations box was stolen from the mosque. The imam informed that the box contained around BD150.

The investigators found the box broken and thrown in the vicinity of residential apartments in the same town. With the help of the footage of a surveillance camera installed nearby, the police identified the two suspects.

The first suspect was referred to the military court, as he was a soldier in Bahrain Defence Force.

The second defendant told the interrogators that his friend came to him one day with the metal box. He said that his friend broke the box using a concrete block and they found BD45 inside it and divided it among themselves.

The First High Criminal Court had previously sentenced the man to six months of imprisonment. He filed an appeal and got the sentence reduced to three months by the Third High Criminal Court.
