Now, minimum speed limit at Bahrain highways is 50 kms

ManamaThe minimum speed limit on Bahrain highways have been set at 50 kilometres per hour for private vehicles and motorbikes, while it was set at 20 km per hour on internal roads.

This comes as per the latest decision announced by Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

Resolution 134 of 2017 was issued on August 28 and regulated the maximum and minimum speed limits on the Kingdom’s roads.

It also mentioned that minimum speed limits for trucks and other vehicle categories should be 15 kmh inside towns, excluding ring roads, and 30 kmh on ring roads and highways.

As for maximum speed limits for private vehicles and motorcycles, the resolution stipulated that it should be 40-80 km per hour inside towns, excluding ring roads, and 60-120 km per hour on ring roads and highways. While the maximum limit for other categories was ranged between 30-50 inside towns and 30-80 on ring roads and highways.

“Minimum and maximum speed limits’ signs installed on the roads should be considered by drivers. On multiple-lane roads, drivers driving at maximum speed should be on the left lane of the road. Drivers driving at slower pace should be on the right lanes,” the resolution read.

The fourth article of  the resolution stipulated that the General Director of Traffic Colonel Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa is tasked with the implementation of the resolution.

The resolution was published on the Official Gazette on August 31 and came into effect last Tuesday.

It comes as per the directives of the Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to reconsider the speed limits on readjusting the speed limits on the kingdom’s roads and highways, following a public outcry over the increasing traffic fines and unclear warning signs on the roads.

The Premier ordered to reconsider the speed limits applied on the main roads and highways, and modify them to ensure they are commensurate with the traffic movement, and that they meet the requirements of safety to reduce traffic violations and at the same time to ensure the application of the law on violators.
