Futsal League for Disabled: Semi-finals today

ManamaThe semi-finals of the tournament for people with disabilities of the Fifth Khalid bin Hamad Futsal League for Youth Centres, People with Disabilities and Girls will be held today at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town.

This event is being held under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Honorary President of Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities.

It is also jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and the Media Office of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, under the slogan #Generations_Meeting.

The league will continue to next Thursday and has featured 59 teams that represent youth centres, local unregistered clubs, people with disabilities and girls’ teams for the first time.

Today the Movement Disability team will play Bahrain Deaf Society team in the first match at 5pm, followed by the Special Olympics team against the Deaf Team at 6pm.

Mohammed Al-Buainain, Movement Disability Team player expressed his hopes to qualify to the final match of the league and win their next match against Bahrain Deaf Society Team, adding that the match will witness strong competition considering the good performance shown by their opponent in the previous matches.

The tournament of people with disabilities brought a number of the best players of the game in Bahrain. One of them is Sayed Noor Al-Weda’ee who participates for the Bahrain Catalysts Association Team and represented Bahrain in regional and international disabled sports tournaments since the mid-1990s.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid has instructed the organisinig committee to increase the prizes for the first three winners of each tournament to a total of BD20,000 and a brand new car for one lucky spectator.

Ali Sabt, Shakhoora Youth Centre President, commended Shaikh Khalid’s directives to encourage the participating teams to show their best performance, adding that the prizes have increased the excitement and competition of the matches. On his part, National coach Khalid Al-Harban said increasing the prizes of the league reflects the concern of Shaikh Khalid to improve the league.

Mohammed Al Sharqawi, Bahrain Sports Channel Analyst and Bahrain National Futsal Player commended on Shaikh Khalid’s initiative to award the fans and spectators. He said that allocating a brand new car as a prize for a lucky spectator on the final day of the tournament will sure attract many sports enthusiasts to attend and watch the match.
