8,000 hit pools to beat heat in August

ManamaMore public swimming pools may be opened in the Capital considering the large turnout witnessed at the existing pools this summer.

Public swimming pools in the Capital Governorate received around 8,000 visitors in August.

The only public swimming pools in the capital, Ain Adhari and Umm Al-Shu’um pools, received 7, 971 visitors in both morning and evening periods last month, as confirmed by Capital General Secretariat General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

“Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf has directed to provide more public swimming pools in the governorate, following the success to attract large numbers of visitors to Ain Adhari and Umm Al-Shu’um. It’s an incentive to establish similar sustainable projects in the capital,” Shaikh Mohammed said in a statement issued here yesterday.

The official clarified that 4, 097 visitors were received at Umm Al-Shu’um and 3, 874 at Adhari, adding that 26 percent of the visitors were families.

He said that the secretariat continues to provide its services to citizens and residents by conducting periodic maintenance works at these facilities to  ensure its sustainability.

Shaikh Mohammed explained in his statement saying, “The Capital Governorate has a range of sites and facilities, which carry heritage  and historical values such as Adhari, Qassari and Umm Al-Shu’um ancient water springs. The Secretariat seeks to revive these sites in coordination with the various concerned parties and develop them in order to ensure their sustainability and to provide all the amenities and services in them, and to conduct periodic maintenance at them to serve citizens and residents.”
