Bahrain condemns attack on convoy in Egypt’s Sinai
Manama : Bahrain yesterday strongly condemned the terrorist attack which targeted a security patrol in El-Arish in the Arab Republic of Egypt killing a number of policemen and injuring others.
Reports said that militants killed 18 people in an attack Monday on a security convoy in Egypt’s North Sinai, where police and troops are battling a jihadist insurgency.
The incident occurred when a vehicle tried to break through a security convoy passing between Qantara near the Egyptian port city of Ismailiya, and El-Arish, the capital of North Sinai.
IS claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it killed eight Egyptian soldiers in an ambush on the outskirts of El-Arish, according to the Aamaq news agency, which is affiliated with IS.
“As the forces dealt with the car, it blew up,” the Egyptian Interior Ministry said.
Condemning the attack, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, expressed profound condolences and consolation to the families and relatives of the martyrs and wished speedy recovery for those injured.
The Ministry affirmed solidarity of Bahrain with Egypt and support to the measures it takes to counter the terrorist organisations.
