Attacked woman to be moved to Dar Al Aman

ManamaMore shocking details were revealed yesterday about the cruel assault on a Syrian woman by her ex-husband, leaving her hospitalised in a terrible shape.

The woman suffered several wounds and bruises for five days before being shifted by ambulance to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) on Saturday, as confirmed by sources close to the victim.

Identified as Zahra Sobhi, 35, the Syrian victim was recently divorced from her 52-year-old Bahraini husband after a ten-year marriage. She has five children in the marriage. As per a court order, Sobhi lived at her ex-husband’s residence in Jeblat Habshi, as she is the legal custodian of the kids. She claims that her ex-husband attempted to murder her on Tuesday by punching her several times, banging her head on the wall and beating her head with a piece of tile.

The source, who preferred anonymity, told DT News that one of her daughters informed the neighbours about the deteriorated condition of her mother and they rushed her to SMC. At the hospital, the woman was diagnosed with concussion, hemorrhage and severe bruises and inflammations on the face and other parts of her body.

Few hours after the woman appeared in a video that was widely circulated on social media speaking about her ordeal, Interior Ministry announced that it had arrested the attacker and referred him to the Public Prosecution.

The Public Prosecution yesterday announced that it had ordered to detain the man after interrogating him.

Northern Governorate Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Salah confirmed in a press statement issued yesterday that the Public Prosecution initiated its investigations into the case once it was reported by the Northern Governorate Police Directorate.

“A special team from the prosecution visited the victim at SMC, heard her testimony and examined her injuries with the assistance of a coroner. The attacker was interrogated in the presence of his lawyer and the prosecution ordered his detention while further investigations are continued. The defendant was accused of assault,” Salah added.

Labour and Social Development Ministry announced on its official page on Instagram that it provided an apartment for the victim and her children at Dar Al Aman shelter for domestic violence victims.

“The woman will be moved to the shelter after being discharged from SMC. These procedures come within the core of the ministry’s work and responsibilities,” the statement read.
