Liquor, electronic cigarettes, sheesha smuggled from Bahrain seized

ManamaCustoms authorities on the Saudi side of King Fahad Causeway have seized large quantities of liquor and other items smuggled from Bahrain. These items are banned in Saudi Arabia.

Quoting King Fahad Causeway General Director Sulaiman Al Bulaiheed, several Saudi journals mentioned that the items were seized during the recent Eid Al Adha Holidays, between August 27 and September 8.

They included 547 bottles and cans of alcoholic beverages, 225 electronic cigarettes and sheesha, 14, 111 boxes of cigarettes and more than 1,000 boxes of molasses.

The confiscated items noticeably included more tobacco products, as new taxes were imposed on them there, raising its prices by double.

Al Bulaiheed also said that customs officials foiled attempts to smuggle banned animal drugs and around 14, 500 litres of banned petroleum products.

The Saudi Customs on King Fahad Causeway periodically announces foiled attempts to smuggle prohibited items into Saudi Arabia from Bahrain through the causeway.

The most common smuggled items are usually alcoholic beverages, drugs, weapons and sometimes humans.

Vehicles crossing the causeway are only checked on one side to save travellers’ time, as announced by the customs of both the kingdoms. Cars coming from Saudi are only inspected on the Bahraini side of the causeway and vice versa.
