Three die in Bahrain road accident

ManamaThree Bahrain citizens lost their lives in a horrific traffic accident that occurred on Khalifa bin Salman Highway near Aali in the early hours of yesterday.

Sadiq Al Sabba’a, Hassan Al Sayyad and Adel Faraj are the deceased.

Sources said that one of the victims was standing near his car (pickup truck) with the door open when another driver rammed into him and killed him instantly. However, no official statements were made on the details of the mishap, other than it was caused by “wrong traffic practices”. How the other two people died is not known.

Several ambulances, fire trucks and traffic police vehicles were seen on the spot. The General Directorate of Traffic diverted the traffic on the busy highway to the nearby Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway, while the vehicles and bodies were removed.

Both Al Sayyad and Al Sabba’a were laid to rest in the graveyards in Zinj and Jidhafs, while no information was available on the third victim.

Head of the Traffic Accidents and Violations at the General Directorate of Traffic, Major Ahmed Saad Al Saadi, said that the fatal accident was the result of wrong traffic practices.

He said that the directorate had witnessed several such wrong practices while dealing with traffic accidents in the four different governorates of the Kingdom.

The official explained that standing in the middle of the road to examine the damages in the car or slowing down to see a nearby accident is very dangerous. Many people do that.

“This could lead to dangerous consequences besides hinder the operations of rescue teams and traffic personnel,” Al Saadi said while advising drivers to not crowd around accident sites.

He added, “Those involved in traffic accidents should stop their cars in secure areas, away from the road, and then go to the nearest traffic accident office. In hit and run cases it is enough to write down the number plate of the vehicle to report it to the concerned bodies.  Unfortunately, some minor traffic accidents lead to deaths and serious injuries, because of such wrong practices.”
