Hiring domestic workers: New LMRA norms on way
Manama : The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) is finalising a new tougher law making it mandatory for employers to sign a new ‘three-party contract’ to recruit domestic workers.
The ‘new model three-party contracts’, according to LMRA CEO and National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons Chairman, Ausamah Al Absi, regulates the relationship between the “employer, the recruiting agency and the worker”.
He, however, confirmed that the law, which is set to come into effect by next month, will be finalised only after “approving the comments and recommendations made by the manpower and recruitment agencies in the Kingdom”.
Al Absi was speaking during a workshop held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to announce and discuss the new contracts.
The workshop was held in the presence of representatives from 152 manpower agencies in the Kingdom and civil society establishments including the National Institution for Human Rights, the Consumer Protection Directorate of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry and Labour and Social Development Ministry.
Explaining further, Al Absi said that LMRA is keen on consulting all related parties and establishments of the civil society on the issue.
The workshop discussed LMRA’s new project titled ‘Expats Management System’ (EMS) and explained the role played by the employment offices in the fighting trafficking.
